Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-06-27

Translate Feed ("the extension") is a browser extension that translates posts and comments on social sites (X/Twitter, Reddit, Bluesky, YouTube, Hacker News and others) into the language you choose, using either Google Translate or an AI provider that you configure with your own API key.

This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your data.

Summary

1. Data the extension stores on your device

The following is stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage) and never leaves your device except as described below:

Your API keys are stored locally and are sent only to the corresponding provider's API endpoint to perform translations. They are never sent to the developer or any third party.

2. Text you translate

When you translate content, the text being translated is sent to the translation provider you have selected, solely to return the translation:

This data handling is governed by the privacy policy of whichever provider you select. The extension does not retain translated text after returning the result.

3. Permissions and why they are needed

4. Optional anonymous analytics

Analytics is off by default and only runs if you explicitly enable it in the extension settings ("Share anonymous usage stats").

When enabled, the extension sends aggregated, anonymous counts to PostHog (EU region, eu.i.posthog.com) to help improve the extension. Specifically:

It does not send: the content of posts, the text you translate, the translation results, your API keys, your IP-based identity, your browsing history, or any personally identifiable information. The only identifier sent is the anonymous random UUID described in section 1, used to avoid double-counting.

You can turn analytics off at any time in the extension settings; when off, no analytics requests are made.

5. Data retention and deletion

All settings and identifiers live in your browser's local storage. You can delete all of it at any time by removing the extension. Anonymous analytics counts that have already been sent (only if you enabled analytics) are retained by PostHog according to the project's retention configuration and contain no personal data.

6. Children

The extension is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be reflected in the extension's store listing.
